“I don’t know to be completely honest. often I am given pieces and told where to look. Even getting this kind of information “off the record” is tricky. There are some sources that I have a strict NO OFF THE RECORD rule. 

Basically if a source tells you something off the record and doesn’t allow you to even write it should you verify it elsewhere it is a BAD thing for my purposes.

I would rather not know than have a rumor that i can’t write about. When this happens I am forced to just talk around it. 

This happened about a dozen times in recent memory. Twice when the deal went down, and if you go back and research it you will see very clearly that I knew, but couldn;t say.
